Terauchi Masatake: Governor-General of Korea
Gen. Terauchi Masatake
"The high density of the individual is to serve, rather than to rule",(Albert Einstein). Unfortunately, when the Japanese stepped in to assist Korea, they were accused of causing civil tumult, stealing Korean territory, and ruining the lives of thousands. While many believe the Japanese seized and ruled Korea brutally, they would appear to be incorrect because Japan helped Korea in the development of their economic, educational, and land reform systems. Japan should not been have considered a cynical threat to Korea, but a guide in the modernization of their country; a protector. The Koreans failed to see the logic in the Treaty of Ganghwa and the Japanese Annexation of Korea. Japan for Korea's trust and friendship, but instead were treated like enemies of the state.
Although Japan established treaties, documents, and gave Korea the benefit of the doubt, Japan was still considered public enemy number one. The Treaty of Ganghwa and the Japan-Korea Annexation appeared to be invalided and became void. Japan stepped in to help Korea to become a better, more advanced and developed country. Our leadership was only to serve as a guide to Korea and its people, and to organize opportunities of trade.
